It's Not Just Fashion

Because Friendster is no longer cool and we refuse to tweet, we're making a tumblr. Delve into the terrible combination of Charlie and Marisa's minds that is: It's Not Just Fashion.

One trend that we haven’t seen quite make it State-side is the menswear shoe for women.  In Europe, these shoes are HUGE, a staple of any girls wardrobe; yet for whatever reason, they haven’t made the jump over the pond.  We love this style of shoe and Marisa has nearly worn through her third pair since leaving Paris a year ago.  We’ve been hoping for some lower-end brands to pick up this trend and try to make it work.  Well, we just saw a post about the new “Sophie” shoe by Vans on Nitrolicious that will make its debut in the spring.  Don’t get us wrong, neither of us are gnarly skater kids, yet we found ourselves drawn to the simple chicness of these delicate shoes.  We will be making a rare visit to our local Pacific Sunwear come spring.  In the mean time we will covet these silly, yet amazing Christian Louboutin menswear sparklers.

permalink We saw these Louboutin booties in the window of Bergdorf’s just over a month ago and immediately started drooling.  We had forgotten that we had captured their gloriousness on film until this morning and we knew that we must share their beauty with all the It’s Not Just Fashion readers.  As you know, our obsession with lace grows more and more each day to the point where Marisa has been DYING for a pair of lace shoes.  She has been desperately missing her white lace high-tops from third grade, and suddenly these Loubs seem to fill that void.  What makes these booties so delicious is the mixing of textures.  Mix and match is a major trend this fall and spring 2010, and unlikely combos like lace, glitter, and leather make what used to be oh so wrong, now look oh so right.  An all lace bootie would look more like a slipper and would be really hard to match, but we think this execution of a lace shoe is absolutely show-stopping.

permalink We love how this New Yorker isn’t afraid to mix and match textures. The layers, pleats, beading, fringe, and straps are perfectly balanced and the nude colors are so fresh. Snaps to this cab-hailing fashionista

permalink Here’s an image of the special edition Christian Louboutin for Barbie neon pink shoe.  We have to wonder who will actually shell out that much dough for this shoe, other than some Barbie obsessed billionaire.  Our guess is that the gals who want Barbie-themed shoes are still getting an allowance from their parents and still wear sneakers that light up when they walk (ps, they NEED to make those for adults).  We don’t foresee this shoe becoming a classic Loub.

In a recent publicity stunt that is so shameless that it’s actually hilarious, Christian Louboutin and Barbie have collaborated on a book called “My Year in Paris with Christian Louboutin xoxo Barbie.”  Yes, that’s right, the world’s most praised shoe designer has collaborated with a plastic doll.  At first we thought, really Louby? Really????  I mean we know we’re in a recession and all, but don’t you have more pride than to collaborate with a doll that doesn’t even have toes for wearing peep-toe shoes?  But once we saw the slide show of images to be featured in the book, we TOTALLY got it.  Obviously a women’s shoe designer would be amped to do a photo-shoot in which he gets to prance around Parisian world in which only Barbie-people live.  Check out the above images to better understand.  This will obvi be our new coffee table book.
