It's Not Just Fashion

We’ve been following the upcoming Rodarte for Target line with eager anticipation and are happy that the web was abuzz today with clearer pictures of some of the line’s pieces.  But from what we saw today, we’re feeling … meh.  The black lace halter dress that looked oh so promising in the blurry pics released several weeks ago, now looks a little, well, cheap.  We know from personal experience that this kind of lace, that Target also used for its Anna Sui line, doesn’t look or feel so great in person.  The bow-sleeved frothy number looks well made to us, but we fear that those bows will look like weird shoulder wings when the dress is actually put on a human.  Despite our concerns, we remain optimists!  Yet we are still pondering, how does this Target collection relate to their S/S 2010 warrior runway looks??  We’re completely baffled by how the inspiration for the two lines connect, but we’ll role with it.  Variety is good, n’est pas?

Holy Lady Gaga!  More pics of the Rodarte for Target line were released today on nitrolicious.com and well, THIS is what happened.  Marisa really loves the bras and the tights, but we feel like some vital parts of these outfits are missing, like oh I donno… shirts and pants.  Details, details, we know, this is HARDCORE fashion!  But Rodarte, let us not forget that this will be marketed in mass to mainstream America.  All in all, the bow/lace tights are GENIUS but we cannot for the life of us figure out how one might wear these tights out in public without someone asking “are you wearing a little bow underneath your dress right around your belly button?”  and that would just be downright embarrassing.

Ever since the announcement this summer that Rodarte would be doing a line for Target, the fashion world has literally been peeing it’s pants with excitement.  I mean, we love us some Rodarte, but sometimes we feel like these designer Target lines get built up like they’re the second coming of Jesus, only to find out that they’re poorly made, ill-fitting, cheap-looking versions of the real thing which we will never be able to afford.  BUT sometimes, Targé (as we like to pronounce it) does not let us down, like with the Alexander McQueen for Target mermaid dress last spring, which Marisa bought on its first day out in stores, much to the dismay of other shoppers because she had the flu and really should not have been out in public, much less trying on clothes.  We got our hands on some images of the Rodarte for Target line ($9.99-$79.99) that will be out December 20.  What do you think?  We loves the bow black dress (obvi), but the leopard seems a little tired à la Kate Moss for Top Shop, to us.  Either way, we’ll likely be at Target its opening day, in sickness or in health.
