It's Not Just Fashion

Because Friendster is no longer cool and we refuse to tweet, we're making a tumblr. Delve into the terrible combination of Charlie and Marisa's minds that is: It's Not Just Fashion.

permalink Raquel Zimmermann for Alexander McQueen: simply amazing.  An add worthy of entry to the Slytherin House.

permalink We thought it couldn’t be done, and yet the amazing Daphne Guinness has managed to walk the red carpet and party all night in the McQueen alien shoes.  The heiress is known for her risk-taking style, but this just looks downright painful.  10 bucks says she took those babies off as soon as she scooted away from the cameras.  Either way, we commend her and her bold style.  Only a true fashion-lover would risk never being able to walk again if it meant being the first to clomp down the red carpet in these coveted works of art.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Alexander McQueen is not easy to pull off, but if there is one fierce fashionista who can do it, it’s the pop phenom that is Lady Gaga.  In her latest (and very catchy might we add) music video “Bad Romance”, Gaga rocks McQueen S/S 2010 throughout what appears to be some sort of captive dream-like sequence.  Her wardrobe is, of course, highly appropriate considering the world premiere of the “Bad Romance” single was at the McQueen show this past fall.  Honestly, we do not know who else could possibly walk, much less dance in those insane shoes.  Maybe that’s why we only see a flash of Gaga walking in the towering glittery heels; we can picture that some poor intern had to catch her each time she fell trying to walk in those.  ”Bad Romance” has been a staple in the gym mix on our ipod and we’re excited to now have a McQueen-clad Gaga as a visual to go along with the song.

*We can’t find any stills of Gaga from the video yet, but here’s the S/S 2010 finale McQueen outfit that she rocks toward the end of the video

permalink So here we have Ms. Camilla Belle of Jonas-bro-dating fame wearing one of Alexander McQueen’s latest confections. We must give the gal props for being brave enough to wear McQueen off the runway; that takes balls, and for that, we salute you… oh and for your fab shoes, they may be better than the cra cra shoes McQueen sent down the runway. That being said, we truly don’t think this is how Mr. McQueen pictured the dress to be worn. The perfect hair, the diamond earring and bracelet set, and the dainty metallic clutch take away from the dramatic, artistic quality of this amazing frock. It’s like Camilla is trying to make this dress look more like Marchesa and less like McQueen, which is like trying to make a Monet a Picasso: they just are not meant to be presented in the same way. This look as a whole is far too girly and frou frou; we think someone rough, artsy and a little dirty needs to rock this gown. So to all the Chloe Sevigny’s and downtown celeb hipsters out there, we dare you to try this McQueen look and make it work!

So tacky, yet so right.  Is this McQueen’s cry for a Spice Girls reunion?  If so, we support that.
