It's Not Just Fashion

Because Friendster is no longer cool and we refuse to tweet, we're making a tumblr. Delve into the terrible combination of Charlie and Marisa's minds that is: It's Not Just Fashion.

permalink So here we have Ms. Camilla Belle of Jonas-bro-dating fame wearing one of Alexander McQueen’s latest confections. We must give the gal props for being brave enough to wear McQueen off the runway; that takes balls, and for that, we salute you… oh and for your fab shoes, they may be better than the cra cra shoes McQueen sent down the runway. That being said, we truly don’t think this is how Mr. McQueen pictured the dress to be worn. The perfect hair, the diamond earring and bracelet set, and the dainty metallic clutch take away from the dramatic, artistic quality of this amazing frock. It’s like Camilla is trying to make this dress look more like Marchesa and less like McQueen, which is like trying to make a Monet a Picasso: they just are not meant to be presented in the same way. This look as a whole is far too girly and frou frou; we think someone rough, artsy and a little dirty needs to rock this gown. So to all the Chloe Sevigny’s and downtown celeb hipsters out there, we dare you to try this McQueen look and make it work!

permalink We totally understand this outfit that Charlotte Ronson wore on Halloween. She is a human dressed as a cat dressed as one of the Olsen twins dressed as a Brooklyn hipster. It all makes sense. But seriously, if you can design your own line of clothing plus a line for JC Penney, can’t you come up with something a little more creative for Halloween?

Looking back through pictures of accessories from Spring/Summer 2010 shows, we stumbled upon the shoes at Proenza Schouler. Their shoes are not nearly as dainty or delicate as some of the ones we posted from Paris, yet they are still flashy and fantastic. The colors and the details on the wedges remind us of an underwater paradise (Flounder from the Little Mermaid meets the runway). And the bootie has soft, intricate scales contrasted with suede and a bungee. These shoes are the perfect accessory for an all black outfit, plus they look fancy without any fuss.

Claws for hands!
Underwear on head!
Deodorant over clothes!
Oh LG what will you think of next?

Alber Elbaz has done it again for Lanvin: these shoes are a combo of Paris-London-Euro-chic amazingness.  Who knew that anklets would ever come back in style??  We didn’t see that one coming, but vive la 90’s, we’d rock it if we could get our hands on these shoes.  The genius combination of jewelry and ankle straps that hang down on the foot as to not chop off the legs and make them look stumpy (like most ankle straps do), would be flattering on girls of all sizes.  We can picture stars like Naomi Watts and Jennifer Connelly looking fierce in these stunners and we will be drooling with envy.

permalink We love how this New Yorker isn’t afraid to mix and match textures. The layers, pleats, beading, fringe, and straps are perfectly balanced and the nude colors are so fresh. Snaps to this cab-hailing fashionista

permalink In the world of celebrity designers there are two different paths: the Olsen path and the Lohan path. We are glad to say that Nicole Richie (a celeb that we have been obsessed with since her first days on the Simple Life, sorry Paris but Nicole was the real reason we watched) has put out these pictures as part of her House of Harlow 1960 line. We love the thick heel, the geometric patterns, and the earth tones. Dress them up, dress them down, wear them with all black or incorporate them into a pattern-plenty outfit, Richie knows her shoes.

Kate Moss, how we are obsessed with thee. Kate has obviously taken some missteps in the past (drugs, boys, partying…sounds like a typical 20-something), but we have to hand it to her for the Christmas Collection for Topshop (and the accompanying campaign). Beyond creating effortless cool and shockingly affordable clothes that will be worn by many happy gals at Christmas cocktails and New Years Blow-outs, Kate modeled for her campaign. It’s like Bridget Bardot and Studio 54 had a baby in the year 2020 who loves fishnets and glitter…and we’re SOOO into it. Kate, you can do NO wrong by us (except maybe the pajamas)!

When we were 8 years old and we wore clothes like Arlo Weiner, we were told to go back upstairs and think about whether orange and green really match or warned that Halloween was a month ago. We thank our parents for saving us the humiliation that wearing a bowtie, German police hat, or leisure suit would have caused in our elementary school, but we give Arlo major props. He has style, he has sass, and he now has the credibility of being a GQ star to back up any of his playground stylings.  This kid is hilarious and his fashion advice is spot-on. Watch your back Clinton Kelly and Robert Verdi!

permalink This pic is from Blake Lively’s latest Nylon spread and we’re soo into the leather and lace combo.  We feel like Blake is the perfect example of a stunning girl who could take amazing risks with fashion and yet always either falls flat on the red carpet or tries way too hard to look sexy (*see our earlier Emmy’s red carpet post).  This outfit (clearly heavily styled by some at Nylon) is hot, fashion-forward and does Blake’s stunning looks justice. Not that we would recommend her wearing this out in daylight, but she is totally working the no-pants trend!  We think Blake should stick to this punk look for a little while, she pulls it off so much better than Little J.

Ok, sorry, we had to.  If we had any pumpkin carving skillz at all, we would carve a pumpkin replica of some crazy couture gown.  Something, oh say, like this Giles Deacon confection.  Yes, we would be that person at a pumpkin carving party getting too serious and into it.  Haute pumpkin carving couture, we think it’s the next big thing.

With Justin-Bobby on the mind (*see last post), we felt the need to post about Jimmy Choo for H&M mens collection.  Honestly, they’re pretty damn cool and don’t look like they’re going to fall apart the first time you wear them, as most H&M shoes do.  The dress shoe leather booties are pretty amazing, especially because finding male booties that don’t look totally ridiculous is a feet (pun intended) in and of itself.  If these shoes were available before Halloween we would totally rock the crock/studded shoes as the zombie version of Michael Jackson (too real? too soon?), we mean zombie in the best way possible, like the Thriller version of MJ, you know, at his peak.  As you can see Halloween is on our brains and we cannot wait to see all the crazy (meaning slutty) outfits celebs bust out this weekend.  Sorry, our obsession with Halloween is distracting us.  All in all: Jimmy Choo mens collection for H&M = awesomely cool, we look forward to meeting the men who can pull these shoes off successfully.

permalink With Halloween just around the corner, we’re sure that a slew of hipsters and Justin Bobby-wannabes think they look super cool and shiz clomping around in these Dr. Martens Skelly Foot Glow-In-The Dark Boots.  And you know what, anyone who can pull of glow-in-the-dark boots is def on our cool list.  If you’re trying to find us this weekend, just look for a pair of glowing skeleton boots.
